I first started watching Lost with somewhat moderate expectations, I heard it was a good show but never got around to seeing it due to not having a means to watch all the seasons in order and never really was concerned too much. Our English teacher showed us the first two episodes near the end of my Senior year of high school, and I remember thinking how good the show seemed, but just never got around to seeing it. Fast forward 2 years later, during Winter break of my Sophomore year in college. Its new years day and my parents are looking for a new show to watch so they ask me if there are any good TV series, I remembered LOST and told them LOST is supposed to be pretty good. We have netflix on my PS3 so I fired the first episodes up and was instantly drawn in. LOST is show that is so great, it is up there with classics like I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, and Seinfeld. From the first episode, it draws you to the characters. You are constantly wondering who these people are, why they were headed on this plane from Australia to California, what there life was like before the crash, and what secrets they hold. Every episode has brilliant flashbacks, that explain the characters back stories, which is a very strong point of the show. You grow to either love the character or hate them, and slowly begin to understand why they act the way they do on the island, why Jack always wants to be in charge and solve everything, why Sawyer is so dismissive of the other plane crash survivors, why Locke is so curious about the islands mysteries, why Jin is always criticizing his wife Sun, and why Shannon is so snobby and ignorant. The actors all do an incredible job, and really get into their roles. You really would think Jack is a doctor in real life, Hurley is a fat, sarcastic, funny guy, Jin and Sun are native Koreans, and Charlie is a small name musician in a one hit wonder band. Every actor in this show deserves an emmy for their hard work they put forth in every episode and bringing their character to life. The cast of LOST is the best I ve seen in a TV series since Seinfeld probably. Besides the character development, the show makes good use of the plot development. As the show starts, mysteries about the island and its secrets start to come up. You ll probably have 100 questions by the end of the first few episodes. As the seasons progress, some of the mysteries start to unravel, and when you think you finally have everything figured out, more mysteries and questions come out of the left field. Something you would never be able to predict. This is what makes LOST one of the most creative shows. There is constantly mystery and secrets surrounding the show, and when the show starts revealing the answers, they bring more mysteries to the table. Whats so special about the island., who are the others. What s their purpose. What can the survivors do to escape the island. Will it work. These constant questions are what keep LOST interesting and add to the shows greatness. Even when the show ends, there will be questions that you are required to figure out on your own. The effects and scenery used in LOST are incredible. You really would think the characters have been stranded on an island. The beach and jungle they used to film lost in is just beautiful. The clothes the characters wear, the messiness of their hair, the dirt on their skin, the fires on the beach, the tattered tents are what bring LOST to life. LOST goes the extra mile to make their show a little more believable and realistic. You can actually imagine what the characters are going through and the conditions they are stuck in. The guys behind the visuals and props, as well as costumes did an incredible job and really brought the show to life. So my final comments are, I would definitely place LOST on the top 5 shows to watch of all time. Its a very happy show, that has a lighthearted nature to it, but also manages to be serious at the same time. The actors are some of the best I ve seen and the characters all have their own interesting and unique stories and personalities. The first 3 seasons are unforgettable, and the last 3 are also pretty good. My only complaint is the last season is a little hard to get into and feels a little redundant, but the show does have a lot of twists that keep it interesting from season to season. Its one of the few shows I was actually upset when it ended, since I really miss the characters and plot. If I ever get married and my wife s never seen LOST, rewatching the series is going to be one of the first things I do with her and if I ever have kids, as soon as they reach high school age, I am rewatching it with them.moreless.

The problem with this observation is its normal behavior for a UPS driver,, lol. There is no way a human can be given our work load and act normal. Add 4 OCA s to an already tight pick-up schedule and its enough to make someone crazy.

I have to point out that this is the area UPS rubs customers the wrong way. Its a solid reason why they choose the competition over UPS. They employ too many drivers that can t handle the workload and pass their frustration on to the customers.

The customers don t care and they don t want a delivery person ranting and raving about how difficult his job is. The center should either lighten him up or not make him seniority because its ruining our reputation.

We had a driver get into an accident where the person he hit was hurt they tested him and he failed. So as long as your not stupid and hurt someone you are probably not going to get tested. The guy just made his 30 days too. We have also had 5 drivers get DUIs last year and our clerk went into treatment for drugs. Im noticing a trend here at UPS.

We had a story last year sometime. This guy goes into the Target pharmacy and draws a gun telling the pharmacist Give me all your oxycotin. After he left the cops wanted a description of this armed robber. The Pharmacist says you re not going to believe this but I recognize him as a Deputy Sheriff who used to pick up his meds here even though he had a ski mask on.

They ended up arresting one of their own after watching surveillance tapes. This Sheriff was hooked on oxy after a chronic back injury. I didn t know oxy had that affect.

Urines are not done by UPS but by the D.O.T.

I think you would be suprised at the number of people at UPS that get high in some capacity. I know of alot of package car drivers in my old center that get high. What they do on their time is their business. I spent 6 years on the preload and 10 years on a package car and would have tested positive for marijuana the entire 16 years. Put my favorite past-time smoking pot on hold for feeder gravy knowing that in 10 years UPS will be a thing of my past and I will resume being Rasta man. king o weed

They shouldn t be tested because the truck they are driving isn t above 26000 lbs but it has happened from time to time at my building. A mistake was made and the D.O.T. came in with a package drivers name on their list of drivers to be tested. stuff happens

Actually I was tested while in Package. I think Package CDL holders who are also Feeder qualified by the company, are subject to randoms.

yes you re right about that - if a package car driver has a CDL and is feeder qualified he would be subject to randoms. That goes for supervisors and mechanics as well. If not feeder qualified then probably not on the hit list. I know of 2 drivers that went from feeders back to packages years ago and let the CDL status of their drivers license return back to regular auto driver license so that they wouldn t be on the D.O.T. hit list. Also a big difference with a possible DUI when blowing into a breathalizer.

Drug dealers don t card their customers. So a 16 year old can score an OC from the local drug deal much easier than he can buy a pack of smokes.

He had been sent back to package car after peak, and claimed he wasn t required to take it since he was in package now. Wrong. He finally admitted he had been hitting the weed regularly since being sent back. He had to go thru a drug program and jump thru sufficient hoops so that the company figured he was punished enough. This was 5 or so years ago, and as far as I know, he is still there, minus the weed, that is. You just have to make a decision as to what is more important, a 100,000 a year job with all the benefits or smoking a joint whenever you want.

About 20 of my randoms over the years, they also make you blow into a breathalyzer for BAC. You probably say no way anyone would come to work drunk, but we had a driver blow a. 04 and was taken out of service. He was about to retire. He had to go thru the required consequences, came back for a short time, and retired quietly shortly afterward.

UPS should test more often but they I imagine that if they started testing frequently, alot of people would be without jobs or the company would be springing for quite a bit of treament.

Well your first post was a quote with nothing noting the quote but I won t get technical. Anyways, if you are so paranoid with a non health care professional tampering with your sample if you were to come back dirty, you can always get a second test done by someone at your expense. There is a little thing called chain of custody and unless you are giving your sample in some back alley you shouldn t worry about it unless of course you will comeback dirty.

Favoritism at your last job has no bearing in your current job. You said you were already employed at UPSso again why worry. If your a driver and are usingstop. If your not a driver then carry on with yourself..plenty of dopers who work inside that do a great job.

Are you mentally strong enough to learn entire routes and react quickly in sticky situations.

In order to become a UPS driver, you must be physically fit enough to lift up to 150 pounds or at least maneuver it, stand for long periods of time, lift and lower objects throughout the day, drive a vehicle for hours on end, and pass a DOT physical.

It is also important to note that you have to be able to drive a manual transmission and pass a UPS driving test no special license needed.

If you like to drink a lot or use drugs, you should probably look elsewhere for a career. I mean, c mon, they drive for a living. If you are caught under the influence of alcohol or test positive for a drug, needless to say, your UPS career will be over.

You are given a drug test during your DOT physical when becoming a UPS driver, but not during your hire as a part-time employee.

In order to meet the requirements of a UPS driver, you must fill these appearance requirements: no visible tattoos on arms/legs/neck/face/etc., must have short hair, no facial hair except mustaches, overall neat and clean appearance.

There are a few ways you can go about becoming a UPS driver. Before we get into how to become a ups driver, let s quickly discuss how the hiring process for drivers works.

Each UPS center has x amount of drivers. When one of these drivers is fired, quits, or retires, a spot opens up. UPS then releases a bid sheet for all employees in that current center to bid on the job. Each employee that wants the job signs the sheet, and the one with the most seniority gets the position.

If no one in that UPS center signs the bid for the job, they will hire someone off the street to fill the driver vacancy. You can probably get a clear view now why it is extremely rare to get hired off the street for these positions. Most UPS employees are there with hopes on getting hired to drive eventually.

The Three Ways To Become A UPS Driver

With that in mind, let s look into more realistic strategies on how to come a UPS driver. The first two examples are long shots, but I have seen people land full-time driver positions in this manner before.

If you are not already employed with UPS, you can go to the UPS hiring website and search for available driving jobs. This is a long shot, though. UPS hires very few drivers off the street. If you get hired this way, more power to you, but it s extremely unlikely.

If this is the route you want to take, go to Indeed.com and sign up for a free account. Set up job alertsand apply quickly once a spot opens up in your area. Indeed is the best way to ensure that you catch each UPS job posting, as they comb through all of the job websites online.

A great way to get your foot in the door as a driver quickly is to apply to be a seasonal driver. UPS hires seasonal drivers about two times a year: just before summer and just before Thanksgiving. Check for summer listings in April/May and Holiday listings in October on Indeed.com. Refer to the example above to get alerts sent to you for free when these spots open up.

Once you are hired as a seasonal driver, make sure to do everything to earn a good review from fellow employees. This is vital if you plan on getting a permanent position within the company. Always be on time and work hard; try to impress. If the timing is right, once in a while they will ask a seasonal driver to stay on permanently.

This is the way that UPS intends for their drivers to get their positions. The idea is that you start off with an entry-level position loading trucks or unloading trailers, and work your way up to a driver position. This method will work but it will take years, depending on the specific UPS center that you are working for.

After you landed your UPS job, whether it be pre-load or the twilight shift, now comes the hard part. Waiting.

Depending on the current needs of your center, positions will open up for other opportunities and bids are signed to gain these positions. Whoever has the most seniority will win the bid. If you want to be a driver, look for positions like Cover Driver vacation driver or Air Driver. These are positions where you will be driving, just not full-time. If you win a bid, they will give you a simple road test, get you a DOT physical, send you to UPS driving school, and have you ready to wear brown.

Once you gain one of these positions, you will be filling in from time to time driving routes for sick drivers or drivers who are on vacation. You will gain more hours and receive the high starting wage of a full-time driver. Air Drivers run Next Day Air packages on Saturdays and do random air runs in the morning and afternoons. Cover Drivers do the same, plus filling in for other drivers when necessary. This is a great way to gain responsibility and earn praise from management.

The ultimate goal, of course, is to land a full-time driving gig. To do this, you have to wait until a current driver is fired or retires and then a bid sheet will be released for the position. The employee with the most experience who signs a bid for the job will get it.

It takes years of work or a lot of luck to land a full-time driving position at UPS, but it is definitely worth it if you can make it happen.
